Cannibalism on a Wooden Vessel
In the hope of the better living a man and his two brothers and others from the Dominican Republic wanted to get to the US territory of Puerto Rico with a vessel. They paid much money to the captain for this.
But unfortunately day and a half later after the start the engines broke down and they were drifting on the sea for days. Because the survivers had no food vith them, in their despair they ate one of their 28 died fellows.
At last a US Coast Guard helicopter rescued the five survivors but one of them died in hospital.

I believe this is disgusting but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

BuzzPermalink By MICHAEL M. GRYNBAUMPublished: November 6, 2008 The political world shifted on Tuesday, but the change did little to ease the anxiety on Wall Street. Despite stabilization in the credit markets and lower interest rates around the globe, the last two days were the worst in the American stock market since 1987. In 48 hours, the Dow Jones industrial average dropped nearly 1,000 points, and the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index, a broader measure of stocks, lost nearly 10 percent of its value.“Normally markets are driven by fear and greed,” said Brian Gendreau, a strategist at ING Investment Management in New York. “Now it’s fear and fear.”There were no clear catalysts that spurred the sell-off — which dragged the Dow lower on Thursday by 443.48 points — beyond the regular drumbeat of poor earnings from the corporate sector and bleak data on the economy. Those reports have been arriving almost daily for the last few weeks, signs of a recession that many fear will be darker than anyone imagined just a year ago. But the mantra on Wall Street was that the pain was being “priced in” — that is, investors had sold stocks in anticipation of weaker earnings and stingier spending. The cataclysmic losses of October, the worst month on Wall Street since 1987, were supposed to reflect the defensive moves of an investor class buckling down for the pain to come. With that out of the way, it was time for the market to stabilize. Instead, investors appear to be betting that the worst is yet to come. Stocks that rallied after hitting a year-to-date low on Oct. 27 are heading south again, veering toward a new bottom. Selling starts after the release of reports that do not offer a significantly worse sentiment than what investors have been hearing for weeks. The trends suggest that investors remain remarkably skittish. Shares of banks fell on Thursday by 7 to 10 percent, single-day swings that would have been unthinkable a short time ago. These days, fleeting headlines can move the market just as much as interest rate cuts and major economic data. On Thursday, the bad news came in the form of slumping sales at the nation’s retailers, a harbinger of a holiday shopping season that could be the worst in years, according to industry analysts. Not helping matters: a bleak forecast from Cisco Systems, the networking giant, and comments from an executive at General Motors that suggested the company was struggling to survive. Investors may also have been selling ahead of Friday’s report on the job market, which economists say will be grim. The Labor Department is expected to report that employers cut hundreds of thousands more jobs in October, bringing the simmering problems in the labor market to a full boil. The Dow Jones industrial average closed at 8,695.79, down 4.9 percent, its lowest finish since Oct. 28, after swinging in a 518-point range. The S.& P. lost 47.89 points, or 5 percent, to 904.88, and the Nasdaq composite index fell 72.94 points, or 4.3 percent, to 1,608.70. “The market already knows the economy is pretty sick,” Meg Browne, a currency strategist at Brown Brothers Harriman, said. “But there is attention being paid to tomorrow’s jobs numbers. We think they’ll be much worse than the market forecast.”The declines on Wall Street came despite sharp reductions in foreign interest rates by central banks seeking to further ease the tight credit markets. The Bank of England lowered its benchmark rate by 1.5 percentage points, more than analysts had expected, and the European Central Bank cut rates by half a percentage point. Credit markets also showed some improvements. The amount of outstanding commercial paper — short-term i.o.u.’s used by businesses and banks for daily expenses — were up for a second week, rising $50.5 billion, to $1.6 trillion. That is down from the peak in July 2007, but a significant improvement from last month, when the market for such financing virtually froze up.The Treasury’s benchmark 10-year bill rose 4/32, to 102 17/32, and the yield, which moves in the opposite direction from the price, was at 3.69 percent, down from 3.70 percent late Wednesday. Still, those moves did little to reassure European investors, who sent stocks down sharply. Stocks in London fell 5.7 percent; the CAC 40 in Paris lost 6.4 percent; and the benchmark index in Germany tumbled 6.8 percent. Oil prices dropped $4.53, to $60.77 a barrel. The Labor Department said on Thursday that new claims for unemployment benefits declined last week by 4,000, to 481,000; readings above 400,000 are considered recessionary. The agency also said that worker productivity grew at an annual rate of 1.1 percent in the third quarter, down from a 3.6 percent growth rate in the second quarter.Bettina Wassener and Julia Werdigier contributed reporting.More Articles in Business » A version of this article appeared in print on November 7, 2008, on page B1 of the New York edition. Researchers at the National Autonomous University of Mexico have found that tequila blanco contains just the right mix of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen that when turned into a vapor will deposit itself on stainless steel or silicon as a diamond film.
Initially using an ethanol/water mix, they noticed that tequila had the same ratio. Their concern that other constituents in it would contaminate results evaporated after they got nanometric-sized spherical diamonds.
The tequila was heated to 1470 ºF in a reaction chamber, breaking down the gas and creating diamond crystals 100-400 nm in size and accumulating into a film. Plans are being made to exploit the discovery for industrial applications by 2011.

Pig Organs for Humans
Genetically-modified organs such as heart, kidney and liver of a pig may be available to transplant into humans in three years. This was claimed by the head of the team Lord Robert Winston, working to develop a new strain of mini-pigs, producing organs the human body will not reject.
But it is not yet ready he warns, because of the rigorous testing the first transplant can be done no less than a decade from now. He also says we have to be sure and cautious during the testing.
Now, we must wait for an organ when somebody dies, however the genetically modified pigs may give us a limitless supply of organs.

Pc Fingered whilst on the Job
Pc Gary Bayldon, 48, had sex with women; balancing sex and police duties at the same time. The horny PC, who was married for twenty years, found that life was not going to be quite so easy when he started having an affair with a client.
A court heard how PC Bayldon had met his mistress, a 34-year-old community worker Donna Cacutt, after a call was made from her home on the Isle in Wight in 2004, from there the affair began, and resulted in their liaison ending.
A second affair occurred after he arrested another woman. Suzanne Dunkling, 37, he was finger printing her, and deliberately inappropriately touched her and called her "gorgeous", he later admitted taking too long with the job.

Obama Poised to Swiftly Reverse About 200 Bush Actions
Advisors to President-elect Obama have identified about 200 regulatory and policy changes, along with executive actions, from the Bush administration which the Obama administration could quickly undo.
An insider says that the Bush actions, on issues ranging from climate change to reproductive rights, were done for "overtly political" reasons to push a partisan Republican agenda. The list may lengthen as Bush scrambles to push more such actions.
Some of the Bush actions will be discussed with congressional representatives of both parties before action is taken, while others, such as Bush's executive order banning federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, could simply be reversed.

Bush and Obama, who routed the incumbent's fellow Republican and chosen successor John McCain in the November 4 election, met privately for about an hour in the chamber from which the US president makes world-shaping decisions.
Obama and wife Michelle Obama had arrived about 10 minutes early for their two-hour visit and got a warm welcome from Bush and First Lady Laura Bush at the mansion's South Portico, a gateway to the mansion for many world leaders.
As their wives took a tour of the 132-room White House's residential areas, the 43rd president and his successor strolled along the Rose Garden and into the Oval Office, Obama's first ever visit to the storied seat of power.
